Brazilian Waxing

Gentle wax made for sensitive skin.

A Brazilian wax removes hair from the bikini area, front to back, using a high quality wax and a calm, experienced hand. At SALT Salon + Spa in Antioch, IL, our esthetician is known for her full body waxing. We use a gentle wax made for sensitive skin. First timers are always welcome.

What Is a Brazilian Wax?

A Brazilian wax removes hair from the front, sides and back of the bikini area. The shape is up to you. You can take everything off, leave a small strip or triangle, or ask for something in between. There is no wrong answer, and you will never be judged for what you choose. Tell us what you prefer and we will do exactly that.

What Is the Difference Between a Bikini Wax and a Brazilian Wax?

A bikini wax tidies the hair that would show outside a swimsuit, along the sides and the top. A Brazilian goes further and covers the front, sides and back, shaped the way you choose. If you are not sure which you want, ask at your appointment and we will show you the difference before we start. You can find both in the Waxing section of our Service Menu, along with underarm, leg, arm and body waxing. Our article on a bikini wax vs a Brazilian wax shows the difference in more detail.

How Long Does My Hair Need to Be Before a Wax?

Wax needs something to grab. A good rule of thumb is hair about the length of a grain of rice, or roughly a quarter inch. If your hair is much longer, trim it to about a quarter inch before you arrive, or ask us at your appointment. If you shave between appointments, give it a few weeks to grow back. Not sure? Call the salon at (224) 788-8028 and ask, or read how long hair needs to be before a wax.

How Can I Prepare for My First Brazilian Wax?

  • Arrive with clean, dry skin and without heavy lotions or oils on the area.
  • Gently exfoliate a day or two beforehand, but not the same day.
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing you will not mind getting a little wax on.
  • Arrive a few minutes early so you feel unhurried.
  • Take a breath. The first visit is usually the most noticeable, and it gets easier once you know what to expect.

What Happens During the Appointment?

Your esthetician will explain every step as she goes. She will clean the skin, apply wax in small sections, remove it with quick, practiced movements and soothe the skin as she works. Our waxing services are quick and as comfortable as possible. If you need a moment, say so. Nobody is in a hurry.

Our esthetician is known for her calming presence, which instantly puts guests at ease, and for being thorough. Feeling comfortable is what we aim for every time.

How Do I Stop Ingrown Hairs After Waxing?

Ingrown hairs can happen when a hair grows back under the skin instead of out of it. Here is what generally helps:

  • Keep the area clean and avoid tight clothing for the first day.
  • Skip hot tubs, saunas and heavy workouts for the first 24 hours.
  • After a couple of days, begin gentle exfoliation a few times a week.
  • Stay on a regular schedule, so your hair is at the right length for each visit.

More aftercare is in our article on stopping ingrown hairs after waxing.

If you have questions about your skin, ask. We are happy to recommend a routine, and our skin care team can tell you what fits your skin.

Do You Offer Waxing for Men?

Yes. Back and chest waxing are on our Service Menu, and you can call (224) 788-8028 to ask about a Men's Brazilian. The same calm, professional approach applies. Take a look at all of our waxing options, from brows and lips to full legs, or explore our skin care and waxing page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Brazilian Wax Hurt?

It is a quick, sharp sensation that fades fast, and the first visit is usually the most noticeable. Our esthetician works with a calm hand, uses a gentle wax made for sensitive skin and checks in with you as she goes.

How Often Should I Get Waxed?

Every few weeks, as hair regrows, though timing varies from person to person. A regular schedule keeps hair at a length the wax can grip.

Can I Get Waxed During My Period?

You can, though skin can be more sensitive that week. If it is your first time, you may prefer to schedule around it. When you are unsure, call the salon and we will help you choose a time.

Do I Need to Shave or Trim First?

Do not shave in the weeks before your appointment. Hair should be about a quarter inch long, roughly the length of a grain of rice.

How Long Does the Appointment Take?

A Brazilian wax usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Current times for all waxing services are on our Service Menu.

What If I Am Nervous About My First Wax?

Tell us. It helps us pace things and explain each step, and you can ask us to pause at any time.
