How Does a Stylist's Training Show Up in My Results?
Share
Training shows up as consistency you can see in the chair: the same consultation, the same cutting method and the same color standards, whichever stylist you book. At SALT, our stylists keep learning through in-salon mentorship and advanced education with Sunlights Balayage, Davines, Eleven Australia and FarmHouse Fresh, so the method behind your result does not depend on luck.
Key takeaways
- Consistent technique means a predictable result, no matter who you see.
- Our founder is a licensed Cosmetology Instructor who trains the SALT team.
- Ask any salon how its stylists keep learning, and expect a plain answer.
Why Does a Stylist Keep Training After Cosmetology School?
Cosmetology school teaches the foundation. Techniques, products and tools keep changing, and real skill comes from practice, feedback and continuing education.
How Does the SALT Team Keep Learning?
Mentorship Inside the Salon
Our founder has been in the salon industry since 2003 and has been licensed as a Cosmetology Instructor since 2016. She teaches balayage classes for Sunlights Pro and provides advanced haircutting, coloring and professional development training for the SALT team.
Mentorship does not stop with the founder. One of our stylists, a Tricoci University graduate, now serves as a trainer and mentor to new stylists, and our newest team member is finishing cosmetology school while training in the salon.

Advanced Education With Brand Partners
The team continues advanced education with Sunlights Balayage, Davines, Eleven Australia and FarmHouse Fresh. That keeps us current on techniques in hair color, cutting and skin care.
The same goes for the spa side. Our facials are done by a certified FarmHouse Fresh Skin Therapist.

One Standard Written Into the Menu
Some of that training is built right into our services. Every lightening service includes Metal Detox and Bond Repair products, a customized toner and a professional blow-dry.
Our women's haircuts are French haircuts, the top-down technique that follows your head shape. You get the same approach whether this is your first visit or your fiftieth.
What Does Training Change About Your Hair?
- A predictable result. Our stylists are trained in consistent techniques, so you can expect the same standard no matter who you see.
- An honest plan. A trained stylist can tell you what is realistic in one visit and what will take more than one.
- A cut that grows out well. French haircutting creates soft, almost invisible layers that keep thickness through the ends. Our article on how French haircutting works explains why.
- Healthier lightening. Bond repair and a customized toner come with every lightening service, not as an extra.
- Useful home care. Our team is happy to share styling and product pointers so you can recreate the look at home.
Where Does Training Show Up Most in Color?
Balayage is a good example. It is a French highlighting technique inspired by the way sunlight naturally brightens hair, and it depends on a stylist's hand placement.
Painting it well takes practice, which is why our founder's work teaching balayage for Sunlights Pro matters to the whole team. You can see how we approach it on our balayage page.
Does a Stylist's Level Change Your Visit?
It can change the price. Our Service Menu notes that haircut prices vary by stylist level, and every price can change with your hair length, thickness and your stylist's level.
The methods stay the same at every level. You can see what each cut includes on our haircuts page, and you can read each stylist's story and pick a stylist from our team.
What Should You Ask Any Salon About Training?
These questions work anywhere, including here. A salon that answers them plainly has usually thought about it.
- Ask how new stylists are trained, and who mentors them.
- Ask whether stylists keep taking classes, and with whom.
- Ask whether every stylist uses the same cutting and color methods.
- Ask what happens if something is not right after the visit.
Our answer to the last one is simple. Tell us within seven days of your visit about a haircut or color adjustment, and we will do our best to make it right at no additional charge.
How Can You Help Any Stylist Get It Right?
- Bring two or three photos you like, and one you do not.
- Be honest about your routine and your color history, including any box color.
- Say what you want the result to do, not only what it is called.
- Ask questions. A good consultation is a conversation.
If this is your first visit, our haircuts page walks through what happens from consultation to finish.
