A kids' haircut at SALT Salon + Spa in Antioch, IL is a personalized cut for children ten and under, with a shampoo included, in about 30 to 45 minutes. We move at your child's pace, explain what we are doing before we do it, and keep the visit calm so the next one is easier.

What Is Included in a Kids' Haircut?

Every child's haircut includes a short consultation with you, a shampoo, and a cut planned around how your child's hair grows and how much time you want to spend on it at home. A blow dry finish is not included. If you want one, call the salon to add it so we can schedule the extra time.

How Do You Make a Child's First Haircut Easy?

Most of a good first haircut happens before the child sits down. A few things help:

1. Talk about it at home. Tell your child where you are going and what will happen: a wash, a trim and a mirror at the end.
2. Pick a good time of day. Book when your child is usually rested and fed, not right before a nap.
3. Bring a comfort item. A favorite toy or a small snack for afterward can help a nervous kid settle in.
4. Keep it short. A first visit is not the time for a big change. A simple trim builds trust for the next one.

If your child gets upset, we can pause. A haircut that takes a little longer is better than a child who dreads the next one.

What If Your Child Will Not Sit Still?

That is normal, and it is part of the job. We can work in short sections, take breaks when needed and talk your child through each step. Tell us when you book if your child has sensory sensitivities or has had a hard time at a haircut before, so we can plan around it.

How Do You Choose a Haircut for a Child?

Start with how the morning routine actually goes. A shape that needs no styling suits most kids better than one that looks great only after ten minutes with a brush. We look at the hair's texture, the cowlicks and how fast it grows, and we keep enough length where your child needs it to tuck behind the ears or pull into a ponytail for sports. Thick hair often needs some weight taken out so it dries faster and does not puff up.

What Should Parents Know Before Booking?

• Children under 10 who are not receiving a service must be supervised by an adult who is not receiving a service. Our salon is not suitable for unsupervised children.
• Arrive on time. Guests who arrive 10 to 15 minutes late may be asked to reschedule.
• If something about the cut is not right, tell us within seven days of your visit and we will do our best to make it right at no additional charge.
